You are a star.
I am too. Every single one of us is. Every single living thing on Earth- not to mention the Earth itself- is made from materials forged in the furnace of a red super-giant star that lived more than four and a half billion years ago.
And we’re back! Gosh, did that last article on water make you thirsty for more? Ha-ha, get it! Thirsty! Thirsty for water!
As I was saying, you couldn’t exist without water, or more specifically, without hydrogen bonds. Right now I’m going to give you two of the reasons why. There are more, but we’ll get to those another time. I could write about this stuff all day, but I know you’re busy and you have important business to attend to.
Reason number one you better be thankful for hydrogen bonds: hydrogen bonds are the reason that ice floats.
For my first post, I want to talk to you about water. You may think water is pretty boring. It’s tasteless, colorless*, and odorless. You know you need to drink it, but otherwise it’s pretty uninteresting, right?
WRONG! Incredibly wrong.
Water is a fascinating substance that is extremely unique! In this post I’m going to try to get you to understand why I get all excited when I think about water, so hopefully after you read this, you will get excited about water, and your friends and family will look at you askance. But then you will show them this site, and they will understand.
Welcome to Dang, That’s Cool!
Sometimes people say science is “dry,” or “uninteresting,” or, god-forbid, “boring!” I’m here to debunk this horrible lie and bring to you the never ending wonder of a scientific understanding of the world. Here you’ll learn about everything from heart cells to photovoltaic cells, and more! We’ll talk about ridiculous animals, the origin of gold, the astounding properties of water, and everything in between. I’ll make everything easy to understand, and I’ll include pictures, diagrams, and analogies whenever possible. In addition I’ll keep you posted on important and fascinating science news.
Finally, I want you the reader to ask me questions, and I’ll research the answer and give you a comprehensive and understandable response.
It’s a dang cool world out there. Won’t you come explore it with me?
